Shelter
Survivors was formed by a group of volunteers with
extensive years of experience in animal rescue. Our
volunteers have formed wonderful working relationships with local animal shelters during
this time. We have seen the recent trend with many
rescue groups and shelters transporting dogs from other
areas to the
tri-state area for placement. While we applaud
their passion and efforts, our focus is helping the local animals that
languish in shelters in our own backyards.
We strongly believe in using foster care for these
dogs before placement. These dogs are given needed
medical care, socialization, basic training, and
most of all, love. We feel we can then present our
prospective adoptive families with the most complete
evaluation of the dog they are interested in
adopting.
We are committed to educating the public about the
plight of shelter animals in our area. We feel that
although we are working at a small scale, we are
saving dogs one life at a time.
We Need Your Help!
Carla was surrendered to a local shelter when she was only ten
months old. Her immune system was too weak to fight off
infection and Carla came down with the Canine Flu. Luckily,
she was in a foster home where she got the medical attention she so
desperately needed. Had she stayed in the shelter system she
probably would not have made it.
Unfortunately, the other dogs in the
foster home caught the flu andalso needed immediate medical care.
The good news is everyone has recovered, Carla has been adopted by a
loving family and is doing beautifully. The cost for taking
care of Carla and the other dogs was VERY high. Any help to
offset these costs would be greatly appreciated!!
