Adoption Requirements
Process:
1) Fill out our Online Application or download our Microsoft Word Application and
email it to
sheltersurvivors@live.com.
Please complete the application with
little or no omissions, this will help expedite the
process. You can also fill out an application at
one of our adoption events after meeting our dogs.
Please see our Events page for adoption clinic dates and
locations.
Pay particular attention
to your references and Veterinarian,
including phone numbers.
If you are not within 40
miles of the Bridgewater, NJ area, please attach pictures
of your home and yard to your email.
2) Interview: A Shelter Survivor
volunteer (we are all volunteers) will contact you for a
phone or email interview. We conduct interviews prior
to placement for many reasons. First, we
want to find our dogs the best possible homes. Second,
we want to match personalities as much as possible. (We
really hate to see adoptions fail). Third, we get a kick
out of helping to complete families, and who knows, you
might get convinced to become a volunteer as well.
3) Reference Check: A volunteer will
contact the references you listed on your application.
4) Home Visit: This is an important
step in the process for both the potential adopter and
the dog. The dog your are interested in adopting
will be brought along on the home visit. This gives you
a chance to see how he/she will react to your home
environment. Our goal is to make every adoption a
success!
5) Pending: If all goes well on
the home visit our volunteer will leave your new family
member with you on a trial basis. You will be
given all of your new pet's medical records and the
foster family's contact information. During this
time please feel free to contact us with any questions
you have. After a week our volunteer will contact
you to finalize the adoption.
6) Follow Ups: You may hear from us!!
We will try to make follow up calls to check out how
things are going.
7) Success Stories: Please send
us pictures of your new family member whenever possible.
We love to see success stories, so please keep in touch.
You are very welcome to come to a later clinic with your
new family member and show him (her) off. We also love
to get Alumni pictures and stories from the new family
to post!
