Who We Are
Shelter Survivors is a 501 (C)(3) rescue group. We rescue dogs that have been turned over to high kill shelters in the tri-state area. Many of these dogs have wonderful temperaments, yet they face the risk of euthanasia simply due to overcrowding in our local shelters. Shelter Survivors’ dogs live in foster homes until they find their permanent homes. They are integrated into our homes so that we can have a better understanding of who they are, which gives us the opportunity to match families up with our dogs so a home really is forever!
Featured Dog Of The Month
Meet Bruce! Bruce found himself homeless in Manhattan and wound up at a shelter. We saw his little beagle face staring at us from the euthanasia list and knew he needed to get out immediately.
Bruce is a mellow, 4 year old beagle who loves everyone he meets! He is small at 24 pounds, although due to his short stature he could afford to lose a pound or two. He loves food (what respectable beagle wouldn't?) and he will sit immediately for a treat of any kind. He has his choice of toys in his foster home, but prefers "Lambchop", a stuffed lamb that he carries around proudly. Lambchop's squeaker frightens him though, so he gently grasps it by the head or the tail to avoid scaring himself. He is not a barker - his foster family has only heard him bark once, and that was when the vacuum cleaner got a little too close to Lambchop.
Bruce is up to date on all his shots, housetrained, neutered, heartworm negative, microchipped, and ready for a new home. He is fine with other dogs and likes kids and adults alike. His foster family leaves him free in the house during the day while they are at work and he is perfectly behaved. If you are looking for a great family dog, Bruce would love to meet you!

A Big Thank You to the Girl Scouts of Hillsborough!
A Letter to the Girl Scouts:
We just wanted to give a big thank you to Girl Scout Troop 1224 of Hillsborough. We appreciate all of the hard work that you have done for Shelter Survivors! For the last few months, you have attended adoption days and helped with our foster dogs. They enjoyed the fresh bowls of water, but they especially enjoyed all of the attention that you gave to them! Our dogs have loved all of the home-made treats and toys you made for them too! We were amazed at the amount of donations that you helped collect for us! We have had many dogs that needed major vet care. Your donations helped with our vet bills. We also cannot thank you enough for all of the food, treats, toys, and supplies that you collected throughout the past few months. You are all big advocates for dogs, especially for dog's that have ended up in shelters! You have made a difference in our foster dog's lives. Keep up the good work! Congratulations on your bronze award!
